I share your sentiment wrt the necessity of Quebec protecting its language and culture.

Look, an independent Quebec is better than being in the Canadian federation. No need for the extra layer of bureaucracy.
A Quebec state within the USA (or, sadly, the JSA right now) would still have its own constitution, would be massively beneficial in terms of economy, and would maintain its freedom to secede in the event that the union isn't working out. States are much more sovereign than Provinces.
Total agreement that the Canadian federal government is a parasitic layer of corruption.
But ''freedom of mouvement'' is unacceptable.
We can go back to the days showing your drivers' licence at the border was enough though. Back then our societies were higher-trust. You were expected to behave and go back home after your tourism.
