I wouldn't be surprised if this was propaganda for blacks and any blood was just thrown out. I think they did a lot of weird stuff to convince people that they were crucial to the war effort, like asking people to donate pots and pans for scrap metal (which we didn't need at all).

I have to wonder how those scrap drives were really perceived by the public because I remember my grandpa talking about the collection site they had in [insert midwest town here] and how stupid it was because there were people throwing brand new pans into the scrap pile.
