IMO, government actually should handle paying for instant medical costs like this, in a cold-hearted way. This kid made a full recovery and will be a productive member of society. Same with knifing victims or people with bad appendixes.

Specifically, children and people who will quickly get back to work should be spared a personal financial crisis just because they got help to survive.
