I posted about my in laws. We are in this sort of situation. They don't have 10million but don't seem to have any expectation to help. They assume once their kids turned 18 they are done.

My parents are somewhat absent as well but have offered financial help a couple of times.

The issue is older people think their responsibility to family ends at 18. I keep hearing that it's time for them to do what they want to do. They don't take care of their elders either. Just a total lack of family duty.

It's on purpose. Strong families aren't producers of shabbos slaves. If you kick your kids out at 18 the only place they have to turn is the system.
