I have been seeing this one a lot and I just don't know if it's valid? Most of the evidence I've seen suggesting he was jewish, isn't very compelling.
His name, Christopher, literally means Christ-bringer. He was known to be very strict about the men he sailed with observing Christian religious rites. Columbus was also very adamant about wanting to convert the local savages to Christianity.
I believe in some of his personal letters he also discussed the need for Christianity to retake the Holy land with another Crusade.
That is quite the dedication to a ruse and an odd way to go about it, if he was indeed a closeted subversive jew his entire life.
I wouldn't be surprised to learn if he was at some point financed by jews, though. But a jew, himself? I could be wrong, but I doubt it.. Days without jewish lies counter remains at zero.
