Back in the old days houses used to be built with a terrace to provide shade for all the windows, not only did it make the houses better protected from weather as well as looking nicer, but that shade provided enough cooling so that nobody would need an AC.
Nowadays houses are built with large windows directly facing the sun so that consoomers are forced to buy an AC and forever rely on electricity from the grid to power it.
