It actually was real but in Poland things like you mentioned crime, drug, rape, alcoholism, etc actually are not that bad and it actually is better than like in 2000's. About upper class most Poles blame germans for it as they think they wanted to keep us as slaves, which would be kinda right because Poland wouldn't exist if it stayed as general goverment. We also had teacher shortage because of that after WW2. Polish upper class kinda exist now but in countries east of Poland there's straight up oligarchy, those who had power in for exemple Belarus in 80's have power now.
