The actual Jews of antiquity were a lot different than the ones of today, who are more likely the descendants of the Canaanites and Edomites rather than actual Judeans. Theres a good reason why King Herod was eager to kill a bunch of Judean children, because his line were quite literally Edomite imposters, so he had no ties to the people he was killing.
