Originally it was aryan. Whites were at the top (Brahmin and Khsatriya particularly) and it trickled down. The mughals completely destroyed the caste system because the lower castes converted to Islam from Hinduism and were thus given higher castes, not based off of race *and* religion but off of religion exclusively, than the whites who previously occupied those positions, in the new mughal iteration of the caste system. This is why Pakistan is now almost completely brown dravidian, more so than northern India, even though in the past it was whiter than northern India and closer to afghanistan in terms of demographics. The lower caste gained favor in Pakistan extensively and the upper class Hindus were mostly killed and/or mixed into oblivion.

There was some holdout in India which remained mostly Hindu (why northern india isnt as brown as pakistan), but Muslim former shudras still permeated the upper castes enough that it dismantled the country racially.

And the turkic mughals are practically extinct in general.

The British didn't help very much by making the caste system economic instead of religious *or* racial, actually they made it significantly worse. India circa 1948 tried to cling onto some semblance of the old caste system due to its recently fomenting nationalism but it would largely be in vain because the old Brahmin and Khsatriya are dead and gone. Now it's just picking the lightest shade of brown. White Indians still exist, but there's almost none. And the new caste system is just a pile of shit and it fucks over everyone because the new brahmin and kshatriya have no actual responsibility alongside their positions, whereas in the past they had extensive responsibility to the lower castes. So everyone hates it and that's why the brownest niggers in India are flooding the west.
