Auswitch 1, which is home to the famous "arbeit Macht frei" entrance, was first built as housing for laborers, was repurposed to house soldiers, and then repurposed to house jews. That's why there's a swimming pool - it was built way before the nazi party rose to power.

Auschwitz 2 is the famous train tracks coming in, and was built when they needed more room than site 1 had. No pools or anything fancy here, because it was built from scratch by the nazis.

Those are the 2 places you can visit today, there were over a dozen other smaller satellite camps in the area.
