In my opinion the movie is well done from a technical standpoint. Cameras are in the right place, cinematography is great, the acting is top notch, the script moves the stories and the characters, the arcs are there and work.

But yeah, the subversion also fires underneath it all.

I always thought one of the reasons this particular movie did well was because it played into the romanticized version of what was happening to womans culture in america: follow your feelings and forego your responsibility. It's not your successful White husband you want. It's the pool boy driving a chevy astro.
