That's certainly the intent, but I think they incidentally created an allegory that can reasonably be interpreted against them.

Besides the post above, there's the reality that the animals can only breed with their own kind. Moreover, predator animals literally have to have their natural instincts suppressed to maintain the illusion of diversity. The entire plot of the movie centers around what can happen if this illusion is broken.
