That episode might be under a paywall for now, but it's just another part of Christian heritage that needs to be corrected as they tried to turn him into a cross hating jew vampire (I even thought dracula was based on the jews, but it's the Hollywood version that's inverted that way).
I doubt he was sitting around torturing and impaling mice either, probably all made up stories. The people he impaled were Islamic invaders threatening his Christian people, and that terrified them enough to stop.
