Sadly this is too true. In my youth I wondered why we needed religion, and thought it was a method of control. Now I realize that the general populace is too stupid to be allowed agency, and need a greater power to keep them on the right path. Maybe 1-3% of the worlds population is actually capable of abstract thought, introspection, temporal reasoning, and probably something like 10% are capable of planning ahead.

It made sense originally, in reference to injecting cowpox to protect against smallpox. What was once a relatively natural process to stimulate one's own immune system has been replaced by dangerous and harmful concoctions, but the word remains. The ol' bait and switch.
