It's really an issue of sword or word.

It took forever to convert the Norse because they had to do it by word before sword. They tried using swords first and it didn't go well... for hundreds of years.

It's the same with the browns. The ones conquered by Christian oppressors "converted" quickly and en masse, while the ones persuaded by words converted slowly, irregularly, and at a pace that's culturally inconsequential.

That argument is a bit silly when you consider we’re following an ideation that most of our ancestors fought against and think is evil.
