Also, I would probably stop doing that if I ever heard a white person say that they are a Spaniard- but in my many decades on earth I have not heard that a single time.

Oh, you have to go south, to the places formerly owned by Spain.

New Mexico is still mostly owned by 7 Spanish families (not counting federal land), and they will punch you if you call them Mexicans. Literally. They are proud of their Conquistador ancestry, and hate that the influx of Mexicans is getting them looked at as Mexicans.

Spaniards are like, if you took a Mexican and genuinely made him White. White skin, intelligence, perception, cognition... but Mexican appetites and temper.
