Over a millennia, you say? Spain famously kicked out the jews in 1492, which was less than a millennia ago. But they also let many jews convert and some of those converts went onto lead the Inquisition.

Many Christian nations kept jews around because they loved the idea of buy now pay later. And when the debts got too big they'd just kick them out.
