Traditional wisdom tells us that nocturnal emissions have three causes.

1. Superfluity of nature or illness.

2. Gluttony and drunkenness.

3. Daytime thoughts and desires resurfacing during sleep.

The difficulty then is figuring out which one has occurred, and so what to do about it.
