Torba has now paywalled all old content. It's 2 months for free Gab users with an account, and 1 week for anyone without an account. Anything older cannot be viewed, unless you pay Torba shekels. Free users can't even see their own content older than 2 months. The excuse for why, is that bots are "scraping" the content on Gab, negatively affecting site performance and straining infrastructure.
Torba, several months ago, made a similar decision, which was also unanimously hated, to prevent all free users from being able to upload media. He claimed they had to do this because they couldn't afford to host all the data. Just like now, the excuse doesn't make sense, and the decision runs completely contrary to how social media sites work. All social media sites operate on the mutually beneficial arraignment between the site owners and free users, where the site is free to use, but the free users post their own content, for free, to the site, which provides all of the site's content and drives all user interaction.
Torba's previously bad decision reduced Gab's userbase by 60-75% (going by likes on posts before and after). This will further gut the userbase.

It almost seems like the site got too popular among the wrong crowd (us), so now Torba is actively trying to undermine it with "incompetence" (plausible deniability), to drive us away.
