Yeah this has been making the rounds on R3ddit recently, with mixed reactions. Overwhelmingly, the explanation from men has been that it's simply not worth approaching a woman for something as trivial as a conversation only to run the risk of being accused of rape, sexual harassment, or generally being a "misogynistic creep" (which, while not illegal (yet) does constitute a crime in the court of public opinion). The counter-response to this by female R3dditors (who are generally pretty passive consooomers of the site's content but come crawling out of the woodwork whenever their collective shitty behavior is called out) has been that this is actually a huge problem for women. Firstly, because they got rejected too once at a club by some adonis who looks like he was carved from marble when they drunkenly stumbled up to him and asked for his number so they also totally know the pain of rejection and it's way harder for them to approach men. Secondly, because if all the decent, respectful men don't approach for fear of retaliation then women can't ~~get the attention that whores like them need to survive~~ find anyone except through dating apps where "the men are all trashy fuckbois" (please ignore the fact that women get 100+ matches an hour from a vast array of men and only swipe right on <2% of them, teehee).

TL;DR: Men refuse to play Russian roulette with the current sexual marketplace for fear of criminal charges/social ostracization, women most affected.
