Washing machines have gears in the transmission that are made of plastic. Sometimes the gear will get destroyed and the entire washing machine stops working. Then a tech comes out and has to replace the gear and people get mad because it's plastic.
In reality the plastic gear is there so that if there's a problem the gear will disintegrate and relieve the load on the transmission before the transmission fries, saving you from replacing a part that costs almost what a new washing machine costs.
