The Samaritan thing -- Jesus revealed himself publicly to the woman at the well, in Samaria. He never said anything cross about the Samaritans, and even answered the question "Who is my neighbor?" by talking about a Samaritan.
The jews hated the Samaritans because in their eyes they were pagans. The Samaritans identified that the Romans and Greeks were really worshiping YHWH and identified that the jews had perverted the laws of Moses, just as Jesus said. This made the jews angry, because they believed that they were the "chosen ones", when in reality, Judah was promised nothing. Only Joseph had any promise of any significance, and Samaria used to be the homeland of the descendants of Joseph.
