Had a lot of family and friend ask me about this recently. As chrome manifest v3 takes over ad blockers can stop working or be more sluggish.

Move to Firefox and use ublock origin. It's opensource, not Chromium based and much better for privacy and you can import all your crap on install. Nvidia super resolution now works for it as well.

Youtube blocking should already be working. For a site like Twitch you would follow the directions here.

-Navigate to the uBlock Origin Dashboard (the extension options)
-Under the My filters tab add twitch.tv##+js(twitch-videoad).
-Under the Settings tab, enable I am an advanced user, then click the cog that appears. Modify the value of userResourcesLocation from unset to https://raw.githubusercontent.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions/master/video-swap-new/video-swap-new-ublock-origin.js

To ensure uBlock Origin loads the script disable/enable the uBlock Origin extension (or restart your browser).

If youtube comes with anything in the future you could easily bypass it the same way you are bypassing twitch. A proxy. In the past there were filters for youtube as well but looks like they are included in the newest version I just tried. Hope it helps.

It's an arms race. Always will be, ublock included. Operational smoothness comes and goes. They all spy on you so it doesn't really matter what you pick.

True the eventual solution will just be proxies which is why I included solutions to other sites.

It's one of few chromium based browsers that isn't trying to fuck you over. If you need chromium, use brave.

That said, firefox and it's forks works a lot better. Even the main browser has peer-to-peer sync between your devices, while gulag chrome stores your data in gulags cloud.

It blows my mind people didn't do a mass migration to Linux as soon as Vulkan arrived. There's no reason to even have MS as a middleman anymore. DX is slower than Vulkan and DXVK is faster in DX 9 (now 8 as well) to 11 games. Even reshade has a Vulkan backend now.

I guess you can blame education taking bribes and the Xbox for Direct X even still existing and anyone still using Windows.

MS has always been a joke. They bought DOS and just ripped off Apple who ripped off Xerox PARC. They are the equivalent of a highway robber charging you a tax to use the road.
