I've had a total of two cats to help get the field mice that always show up in winter; my dogs have killed more than either of them. I don't keep cats anymore.

They seem to better as a deterrent force rather than outright killing them en masse. Ever time we havent had cats, our houses have had mice infestations, but when we do have them, zero mice.
Not in my experience of being around them all my life especially for a smaller breed. YMMV. They’ve been described as a big dog in a small dog body, and that has been my exact experience. With that said, it’s a super HEB, and needs lots of attention/exercise. I’ve never been around one that wasn’t run hard on the daily, so maybe that’s why my experiences have been great. I feel bad for the BM(extreme HEB) that my neighbor has. It’s in a small yard and is never taken out for activity. It’s annoying as hell because it’s constantly digging and barking all day, but I understand it’s not the dogs fault. I even offered to take it out for runs and bike rides with me a few times a week and they responded politely no thank you. It’s a beautiful dog and it pisses me off so fucking much. Back to JRTs, and rats, they are smart as a mother fucker, and pretty easy to train. Once again, and unfortunately most people won’t bother doing this. Shit, they can even raise their kids. Lol
Not many things on this planet want to bother with a bunch of cats. My bobcat, ratcoon, armadillo, possum problem went away when a bunch of fucking cats moved in.
Skill issue. My parents have 2 cats and every time i visit them in the summer their porch is full of lizard tails and mouse stomachs. Once I even saw a severed duckling head. Those kitties don't fuck around.
