People have been screaming about Peak Oil and that we'll run out of gas since before I was born. Of all things to scream at Trump for, this is one of the biggest goalpost shifting things you could pick. It's literally almost as bad as, "we're going to be in an ice age by the 1970s" to "entire coastlines will be underwater by 2000" to "it's climate change."
Under no circumstances would a global fuel crisis happen this year, decade and I doubt even this century. If we are truly that strapped for oil and fuel and the world is truly running low, we will tap our own and the environmental groups could bitch all they want but there wouldn't be a law that could stop us. But that's not the case.
We only get 8% of our oil from the Middle East.
We EXPORT more oil than we use. If we were that desperate, we'd just stop sending any out and keep it all for ourselves.
All this is, is oil executives dooming to try and keep stock prices up by manufacturing a fear of scarcity.
