The problem is mass producing lab created proteins and putting them into the food supply with the lax standards we have opens the door for a literal zombie apocalypse. When proteins misform and are consumed they disrupt normal body functions like lead. But unlike lead once they infect an organism they self replicate and shed, infecting others. Eventually turning the host into a drooling idiot. This is mad cow disease and deer wasting disease.
