Gulf states played along before because we provided money and security. In turn, they invested most of their profits from selling us oil into our companies and industries. So, in a way, we were getting the oil for "free" and they were getting resources to build up their cities, like Dubai and Qatar. Going forward that will certainly change since America failed to protect their own bases, a huge loss of credibility.
