I told a variant of this joke this to some boomer relatives. They didn't get it. First they didn't know that every president since JFK has gone there and performed the ceremony.
Then they said well its a Christian holy site so its probably fine. I'm not sure what to say to that response. It is where Jesus went isn't it? Can Christians say that presidents are paying respect to Jesus? And its not about jews?
And yes I know it could very well be an ancient Roman fort too, but that's not the argument Im interested in ATM.
