In 1988 , Fred A. Leuchter traveled to Auschwitz removed brick and mortar samples from the gas chambers and produced the Leuchter report. He claimed that the lack of cyanide residue, which bonds with mortar, in the samples proved the rooms could not have been used as an execution chamber.
