The last time americans used guns to shoot government people en masse was Harlan County, but those were stinky leftists, so it doesn't count or something. The difference between the current rush of immigrants and immigrants from the 19th century and prior is that the latter made an effort, in fact made a point, of assimilating and becoming American. They may have continued to speak their European languages at home and in church, but they made damn sure to make sure their children spoke English and became Americans.

This map doesn't show Italian as one of the languages, and Italians settled in numerous places around the country besides New York and New Jersey, including Illinois and Louisiana. There are also large Basque communities around the country.
