way back when the bible was written your "neighbors" were people of your same tribe, meaning your same ethnicity, nationality, and religion. It did NOT mean foreign invaders who are none of those.

The problem is that politics often overlap with morality, which *is* the purview of the church.
It is immoral to live of the work of others if you can work, according to the Bible. Just writing "illegals" is exteemely vague but there are clear moral considerations when considering whether to voluntarily open the gates of your city to barbarians.
The fact that these are even considered to be political issues at all is extremely telling of how badly churches have fumbled their moral responsibilities because we are actually looking to *politicians* for moral guidance.
