Recent research has shown that the melanocortin system–the part of the body that produces skin pigmentation–is partially [responsible](https://web.archive.org/web/20180929103902/http://ferris-pages.org/ISAR/bios/rushton/rushton-last-article.pdf) for managing the aggression of individuals. Higher concentrations of melanin are correlated with greater aggression in many species, not just humans. Put simply, Africans are more physically violent, in part, *because* they are black.
