Possibly a dumb question: How does that work when you're at a gun range? Are you shooting projectiles that can't harm anyone?

If they even bother training the cannon fodder I'm sure they're only given the ammo at the firing line and the training NCO has a rifle and will kill any of them that gets froggy.

Do soldiers get normal ammo for target practice? Searching online, I see a difference between live ammo and a blank, but they say a blank has no projectile.

Blank ammo wouldn't make sense. Cheap "practice" ammo maybe, but that's not the same thing.
