And it wasn't on February 28th, 2026 either. It was in the eighties during the first occupation of Lebanon.

The first occupation of Lebanon started in earnest against the PLO in the late 80s, which was using Lebanon as a hub to operate out of. The invasion of Lebanon was actually met with support by the lebanese Shia community, because sunnis (which the PLO is) were seen as a bigger issue than the Israelis or jews by the Shia. So the Shiites viewed this almost as a liberation, as getting rid of a terrorist pest and they aided the Israelis in doing that. Israel also, ironically, enjoyed neutral to even semi-good relations with Iran at the time as well.

Well, the PLO left Lebanon, Israel was successful, but israel did not leave. Of course. This annoyed some people. Then a couple of Israeli soldiers fired on a Shia religious procession and were, of course, not tried by the Israeli government for it. This *enraged* people. Israel made the worst mistake they could ever possibly make: they created Shia martyrs, shiism is a religion that obsesses over martyrs like catholicism in the 1100s. This did not bode well for them. Asking why Iran and hezbollah hate Israel so much is like asking an American why he hates Japan so much the day after pearl harbor. It's pretty fucking obvious why if you're history-literate.

Hezbollah was created out of the outrage and just started smoking the shit out of Israeli and American military occupiers. They kicked both Israel and America out of the country in a few years. This also had the consequence of making Iran a forever-enemy too. Israel got the entire other part of Islam against them, which was formerly ambivalent or even friendly towards them, because they are trigger happy, evil, and retarded.

This also had another effect of making Iran a whole lot less picky and sectarian about who they floated cash to. Initially, Iran sent no money to any sunni paramilitary groups, and there were 0 Shia paramilitaries outside of iraq. Ever since this happened, Iran is absolutely not shy about sending loads of shit to groups like hamas or the PLO (which were its enemies, remember, and both of which were initially only iraq-backed). It also created a whole bunch of new shiite paramilitaries everywhere. For fucks sake, Iran even gave a bunch of money to the IRA for the lols after the Lebanon war, so there's a catholic paramilitary added to the list.
