On this day, in 1935, Triumph of the Will released in theaters. Leni Riefenstahl wrote and directed the film. It showed off the symbolism that came to define the look of National Socialism, but most importantly, it showed the world the will of the German people. Hitler was not some brutal dictator, kept in power by fear. The Germans gave him his role because he earned their love and respect.
