After working in a big corporation for over a decade, I figured out that people in power specifically raise up barely competent people into positions of power rather than competent people because then they don't fear the competition. Really smart people with good morals are feared by powerful people so they do all they can to suppress these people from gaining power. Thus, our current system essentially filters for intelligent people with bad morals and stupid people. Essentially, all the worst people in society are in positions of power, generally.
I exclusively worked for small-(preferably) to mid-sized companies, even if the initial pay was less. They focus more likely on merit, in which you move up. I talked to my friends at corporations, and they were generally miserable. I actually liked going to work.
Also, if you work at a small- to mid-sized company and they don't give you kickass raises while producing, leave. I never had that, but that is a red flag.
My dumb 53-year-old advice stupid input.
E: Removed my trashing of Kent. He called out Israel at least.
Many years of life later, I see it's just connections and amoral ruthlessness, nothing more, IQ is often barely average.
