Was the Iran war a major blunder?

If Iran continues to launch missiles and keep the straight closed, I don't see how the USA gets out of this war now without dramatically losing or with boots on the ground. Still, I don't see how the USA wins even with boots on the ground. The USA basically has to hope that Iran just gives up hostility now then the USA can claim they were victorious but if Iran continues with hostilities, this could prove a big blunder for the USA. Thoughts?

The USA can just go away also. Oh no, we never stopped being at war. And then not shoot at them for 30 years. Just a basic truce.
