Reminds me of the episode of Star Trek: TNG where everyone basically got drugged by putting on some sort of VR mind-virus.

Plot in a nutshell:

The crew gets hooked on a headset “game” that shows a little funnel and ball in VR. When the player mentally moves the ball into the funnel, it gives a huge dopamine-like pleasure hit. Pretty soon the whole ship is addicted and basically hypnotized, following orders from the people distributing the game.

Who saves the day:

Wesley Crusher (visiting from Starfleet Academy)

Robin Lefler (Ensign with the “Lefler’s Laws”)

They figure out the game is a mind-control device and expose it.
