As a veteran I can tell you a lot of cops, maybe most, are jealous of veterans. Not sure why, but everytime I'm around them and my service comes up they act weird and go over the top in trying to prove themselves. Usually with exaggerated stories. I guess it's an insecurity issue.
It's a totem pole that doesn't actually exist but does in their heads. Service members are "above" cops on this imaginary totem pole so they have an inferiority complex over it. They're jealous because you got to shoot bigger guns or something. Entirely different jobs, but cops themselves like to conflate them. Plus there's also the fact that there's a fair few cops that only became cops because they couldn't qualify for the military, but did in at least one city's police force, or that got kicked out of the military because they couldnt hack it. There's also a lot of vets and active duty that fucking hate cops but it's typically for more justified reasons than the inverse. MPs/MAs as well as actual police are not beloved by the military by any means but I'm sure that you know this. And cops have been doing shit like this since at least vietnam, too, so there's no love for them.

Idk I've known a lot of veterans and a few cops. The cops have actually been in combat every day, whereas all the veterans except for two were basically just office workers. And my CO friends are tough as shit but they hated that job more than the vets hated theirs or the cops did.
