Reagan’s Star Wars orbital missile defense would have cost a fortune. But they claimed they had lasers they could destroy a missile, the tracking system, and the rockets to get the satellites into space. But they needed thousands of satellites. Hypersonic missiles are not as fast as a laser. It’s been 40 years, they’ve got to have reusable lasers by now. The 80’s lasers were good for a few shots before they ate themselves.

I’m not confident they’d be able to accurately aim the laser to track such a fast moving object, especially from space.

I’ve seen video of tracking systems on jets locking onto ‘UFO’s’ that were supposedly moving at 18k mph. Not sure how fast a hypersonic missile moves.
