It's more along the lines of if you have a prize dog/cow/sheep breed, but they aren't replenishing their numbers. By using inferior breeds to increase the population, you dull out and lower the value of your stock with mixed mongrels. Yes, you've still got animals, but no-one wants them anymore. They are no longer suited to their purpose.
