The interesting thing is that Christianity in the 80s and 90s was always presented as Schofield Bible/Judeo-Christianity. It was the embodiment of cowardice and weakness. While this was lapped up by the Boomers any healthy man was totally repulsed and said "I want the polar opposite of that" which, logically, would be Satanism.

Now that it's starting to become common knowledge that Satanism==Judaism I wouldn't be surprised if, in a few years, metal actually became synonymous with Christianity.
