What is PTSD really?
I know some of my friends have it (or claimed to -- they did see real combat) but I don't really understand what it means.
Is it just that they have a heightened sense of awareness and can't relax for stupid reasons?
Is it actually some form of defense mechanism that used to be considered normal for most of humanity? "Oh -- blood and gore. It is now time to enter a hyper-aware state and carefully consider all of the sensory inputs while my body floods itself with adrenaline and I have to question everything as it could be a mortal threat"?
Legit question.
I think it results when expectations don't line up with something horrendous.
And the PTSD is essentially the lack of reconciliation happening inside your own mind.
The people who I know who have seen combat but don't have PTSD seem to go into with the mindset "this is some garbage we have to deal with. Do the job, come home, forget it happened"
