It's really dumb to assume that appearance do not tell a lot about a person. For one, I can estimate the intelligence of a person based on their appearance. No, it's not just simple cues like clothing, but their face, the way they walk, if they have their bags right next to their seat and do not notice or ignore passengers walking by, speaking loudly into a phone like a nigger, etc. Big cues are the way they speak, gestures and mimic. Old age makes it a bit more difficult to estimate.
Through that, with 5 as average, I can estimate the intelligence of a person from 0 to 10. Sadly I rarely see a 8+ due to my location, but I did see a girl who was 8 or 9 in the capital city yesterday. She also looked good and modest, and wore a long mantle like I do.
It would be really interesting to talk with a 9 or 10, but it's not like they are abundant. Doctors generally fall into 7 or 8 in comparison - their craft isn't particularly challenging, just getting to that position is difficult and requires a lot of memorization and work ethics.
Anyway, to assume the cover doesn't already tell a lot about the book is dumb. It does. It's the point of the cover.
