Very true. The question they're asking is never the question they're asking. It's always either a set-up or parallel to something else. I've always responded with "Why don't you ask me the question you're really asking?" It pisses them off when you call their bluff or show them you can see right through them, but believe it or not, they do respect you a little more for it. But, yeah, it's no less exhausting.
First of all, congrats on being a dad. I've got a three year old and she tries to manipulate me all the time. It's a built in bug all females have. Now a decent father can tame that by teaching emotional control. The thing is most fathers suck at it because they're beta male material.
