This dad is fucking around and his kids know it. I mess with my kids the same way, and I've never laid a hand on them.
Once some of you kids grow up and get a family, you'll realize that your kids are everything to you. If you're wise, you'll never raise your hand to them in anger, nor could you. All I have to do with my kids is say, "I'm serious." and they instantly behave. If you're literally the tyrant of the family (dictator, King, etc.), you must be wise and just to keep the respect of your family members. I don't have to use violence at all with any of my family. Not my kids, not my wife. I show them the respect of the governed, and they show me the respect of the patriarch. This has never been explicitly discussed. It's the natural order and it's beautiful.
merely the THREAT of violence is usually enough to keep them in line (this used to work for women as well)
