This is fanfiction. Esau already had the inheritance as the firstborn. There was nothing to secure. The Bible makes no explicit moral distinction between them being righteous/unrighteous. If one of them is the jew based on pure behavior, it's Jacob 100%. You're leaving out how he actually obtained the birthright.

When Esau is rightfully pissed off and swears vengeance, Jacob flees to Israel—I mean Haran—in order to escape consequences. When Esau eventually finds him, Jacob sends his servants, his wives, and his children ahead of him as human shields in the event that Esau stabs first, asks questions later.
