I've got some savings from wageslaving and I've got a lot of time on my hands but little to do. I thank God that I'm not in some hedonistic stupor with porn or drugs or alcohol or something but really I'm kind of lost. What are some goals I can set for myself. Clearly this forum is full of enlightened White Christian men and so of course I'm grateful to have the best group of people on the whole entire earth to ask. Should I look for a wife? Study something to get a decent career going?

FWIW, learning music theory and rock guitar has kept me busy, engaged and fulfilled for like 10 years now.

That would probably please my dad, he loves music. Does keeping the commandment to honour my parents mean I should learn the guitar to make my dad happy? idk

No, honouring your parents has nothing to do with obeying them or keeping them happy. It has to do with doing things yourself that reflect well on them as your parents.

Serious question, Legitimately not trying to be an asshole. What’s the point of learning MT if all you’re worried about is learning to play guitar/instruments? Just curious. Thanks in advance.

Short Answer: I'm something of a scientist myself, and I like learning things.

Long Answer: Music theory describes the best ways to operate those instruments in a much more fluent manner than just mashing some cowboy chords (*which is fun, too*).

Interesting. Do you have any good sites, or vids you’d recommend for a complete novice? I’d really appreciate it.

No, I wouldn't even know where to start with videos, because as a complete novice I went to books first. I know where all the best advanced videos are, though.

Here's what I did:

I got a cheap pawnshop keyboard and a book called *Piano for Dummies* from the library and plunked my way through it. That gave me enough to dive into another book, *Music Theory for Dummies*. And then when I picked up the guitar I read *Rock Guitar for Dummies* and by then it was super easy.

My guitar is sitting in my lap right this minute.

___

**Moral:** *embrace your inner "dummy" and there's not much you can't learn how to do.*

Nice. I already have guitar for dummies. Bought it back in the late 90s. Hehe.

do you have anything approaching professional recording equipment available? i don't mean a treated studio where you scientifically mic up cabs or anything, just the ability to get a clean DI into a .wav.

i'm in charge of an OST for a game that'll need a chunk of guitar sometime soon (in the coming months) and while i can write riffs, they're too complicated for me to play. i make do with VSTs usually but the real deal is always better. might be interested in hiring you for a song or two when the time comes.
