that's the point. if the powers that be don't hold power over you (e.g. through blackmail/extortion), they will use all the power they have accumulated over others to destroy, vilify, and defame you.

now i'm not saying any of these are the good guys here. but i would bet half of what is said is completely made up, and much of the remainder wildly exaggerated.
