Wound up going to the grandparents until the grandfather was in a hurry and the boy was being stubborn so to save time showered with him like they were at the YMCA pool and CPS took them away when he told someone about it. Kids got passed around foster homes where they were actually abused, including being beaten up by other kids being used as cash cows and burned with cigarettes. Eventually someone from the grandparents' church got them and the kids had absolutely nothing, not even the items they had when entering the system, just the clothes they were wearing. The woman who got custody was ar Walmart or something and the boy was misbehaving so she said something asking him if he didn't want the clothes and toys she was buying, and he replied that nothing was for him. When she reassured him that she was trying to buy things for him he broke down sobbing. The grandparents eventually got custody again. I can't remember much after that as this was 20 years ago.
